Print Screen and Paste

How often have you wanted to be able to capture what is currently on your screen, and use it elsewhere ?  That capability has always been at your fingertips and, guess what, it's another cut and paste.

Whenever you have something on your screen that you want to capture and use elsewhere, simply hit the print screen key in the upper right hand side of your keyboard.  You can then paste it into a Word document using CTRL V to paste, or into an email, again using CTRL V.
You can then resize that image in Word, or crop it, and you can email, fax or print the document.

Here are just a few situations I have used this very effectively within the last few days:

  • To take a picture of option settings for a tax program displayed on the screen, then paste it into Word and print it to provide others with the proper configuration to enter on their computers
  • When my computer showed an error message when trying to load a program, I pasted the view of the screen into an email to tech support
  • When getting ready to upgrade computers for this weekend, I printed out screen shots of existing desktop configurations, to make sure I was able to recreate all of the icons properly
  • While calling tech support for QuickBooks today, I printed out the Help/About screen with Serial #'s, Key Codes etc. and attached them to our contact record in Act for QuickBooks so that we would always have that information at our fingertips in the future

Next time you have something on your screen that you need to show someone either now or in the future, think about capturing it.  It's just one keystroke away.
