Virus Hoaxes

Here is a web site that you can look at to get information on virus hoaxes. Always consult this site if someone sends you an e-mail with a warning about a virus. Hoaxes typically contain wording such as "Officials at Microsoft have warned that this virus is even more deadly than ...." or something to that effect, and that your anti-virus software will not catch it.

People make up these hoaxes because they're not capable of creating a real virus. Actually, what they want to do is create havoc by getting people to forward this hoax around the world, and therefore decrease productivity. It's always a good idea to check the following web site first before you circulate something like this.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

If you use the search feature on the site and look for a keyword in the email you received, you will almost always find more information about the hoax.
